Fall Fun

What a fabulous weekend to go enjoy the fall colors and canyon beauties. We packed a picnic lunch and headed to the Alpine Loop to reminise about our engagment here 2 years ago. It was beautiful, but I can't figure out where the summer went. I stayed indoors way too much this summer.
It is really hard to get any pictures of Dave and I together. I seem to recall the same problem when we got engaged. At least now we have someone else to pose with and make us look good!
Quick version of our engagement story, since I didn't blog back then: Dave made a picnic lunch (all my favs- chocolate dipped strawberries, sparkling lemonade, oreos, lime chips, chicken salad sandwich) and we drove up the loop during the end of conference. He set up the picnic in a little grove. He told me that he wrote our "love story" and wanted to read it to me. I knew he had ordered a ring, but he had convinced me (despite my begging) that he wouldn't propose until it was ready. Well, he read our three page story and as he turned to the last page it said that he found his"girl" in a grove of trees and got down on one knee . . . he then pulled out a (fake) ring and proposed. I was so happy I couldn't eat anything (until my smile started to hurt and I got car sick on the way down) He bought us a family journal to continue our love story in. It was the perfect proposal and every fall the memories of being so in love return. He is Mr. Romantic, although he probably doesn't want anyone but me to know that! I love you Dave!

This is just the beginning of a very sad face Jackson gives us. His little lower lip sticks out and it is so cute, sometimes I laugh even though he is so sad (don't tell anyone, they'll think I am a bad mother). I hope he never uses this lip to get what he wants, because he definitely has me wrapped around his finger (or lip?) when he sticks it out!

Race Results- Jackson pulls "a head"

This weekend I talked Dave into running a 5K with me, sponsored by the Business school at BYU. It was fun to race again. Here are all our excuses:

Jamie: recovering from having a baby, pushed the stroller uphill, didn't sleep much 2 nights before, Washed my ipod and ruined it, shoes are too old

Dave: no time to workout because too much studying to do (and a wife who takes all my free time), Sick for the past month and counting, no ipod, pushed and manuvered the stroller downhill :)

Jackson: couldn't wake up for the race, no running shoes, couldn't breath through my nose, forced to be held back with my parents, cold bald head . . .

Now for the results: Jackson's head crossed the finish line first, followed by mom racing to catch the stroller as Dave let go passing out over the line (not really).

Jackson promptly woke up for the first time all morning to bask in the glory of beating his parents, but once the overall results were announced, he started crying because he didn't win anything. I guess you have to teach them early to be ok with failure . . .
Ryan did much better, and MaryAnn's cheering was incredible! Dayton has alot to be proud of!

My Drunken Father gives me a beer belly

Fortunately Dave is only drunk on cream soda at the Oktoberfest at Snowbird. Jackson's belly on the other hand is questionable :) We enjoy listening to German music and entertainment while enjoying scrumptious German food with Dave's family. It is a great tradition enjoyed by all despite the fact that our 2nd place finish last year in the egg dance was foiled by an odd shaped egg this year. To fit in, Dave and his brother like to bring the big German drinking glasses and some virgin beer.

Jackson at 2 months

Stats: Weight: 11 pounds even
Height: 22 1/2 inches
Head: 38 cm

He is right under the 50th percentile, except his head is now in the 15th percentile . . . so it is growing! Jackson caught Daddy's cold and is now my "little piggy" as he snorts and tries to eat or even breath for that matter. Poor kid! Here are more pics so you can see him grow and make a myriad of faces.

Be honest, camo pants are adorable (and a great deal at Savers)
He sleeps 18 hours a day, but I love it . . . especially because starting on his 2 month birthday, he has been sleeping 9 hours at night!

Reading already!! . . . what a genius!

Big beautiful eyes . . . still blue, but probably not for long, enjoy while you can.

Always has his tongue out, which means lots of drool!

The "Others" - Opposites attract

Dave says that we should name this blog "Jackson" since that is all I blog about. However, although Jackson is the center of my life currently, Dave and I have alot going on too. This blog is dedicated to the happenings in the lives of the "others" in our family besides Jackson. Despite the fact that we both started school, I feel like we are doing totally opposite things in our lives. But opposites attract, right?

Dave: Full-time BYU student
Jamie: Part- time PE teacher

Dave: Studies and Reads
Jamie: Cleans and Cooks

Dave: Changes classes and books
Jamie: Changes diapers and clothes

Dave: Mentally exhausted by the end of the day
Jamie: Physically exhausted by 2:30 when school gets out after teaching PE

Dave: Studies with 4 other guys in the same room
Jamie: Walks to the park with anyone else who has a baby

Dave: Volleyball intramurals
Jamie: Flag Football intramurals

Dave: Teaches Sunday School to 16 and 17 year olds
Jamie: Leads singing to 3-7 year olds in Primary

We are both meeting many new people through the MBA program. I love being involved in the spouses association. They have so many activities, I wish I could participate in them all. We are excited that Dave is in the program. He is planning on emphasising marketing. He studies hard and is a great dad to boot! He is already looking for and applying for internships for the summer. Wish us luck!

Fears of the first time parents

Anyone who knows me knows how scared I was to have an ugly baby. Now that he is here, we couldn't be more pleased, but here are some of my fears and other parents may share the same fears.

Cross eyed, bald and itty bitty eyes,

Wide-set eyes,

Big Nosed baby

cone-head baby,
Baby with a five head instead of a four head,A little head
pointy ears that poke out
But everyone says the kid looks as good looking as his parents . . . lucky Jackson!
