When Dave decided to move to Idaho, I was a bit disappointed about what I would miss this summer with friends and family. But I wanted to look on the bright side. I was happy to follow Dave to a new adventure. Living apart from Dave through May was tough, but we had the weekends and I enjoyed living with my parents and sisters.
So here are some ways I looked at the bright side despite not having any friends or family around:
1. They have a GOLDS gym (where we have babysitting) so I can get in great shape and workout often
2. We live right next to the greenbelt trail next to the river so I will take Jackson with me to discover the city, go to parks, zoo, library, museums and workout.
3. I will finally get caught up on my scrapbook!
4. We'll go swimming!
5. I will go to library story time and check out lots of books to read on parenting, teaching, novels and books for Jackson.
6. I will cook new recipes and hone my housekeeping skills.
Here's how everything has gone down:
1. Golds gym will not honor our free daycare . . . it cost $4 an hour
2. Bike trailer/jogging stroller: STOLEN (see previous post)

3. Our computer with all our pictures and scrapbook supplies (I am going digital) won't turn on (Thank goodness for a laptop with internet)

4. It hasn't been over 80 degrees since I've been here

5. The library took my card away because I am not a permanent resident. It cost $50 to be able to check out 2 books a visit.

6. I'm just waiting for our stove to blow up.
P.S. We didn't bring the cord to upload pics because our desktop has a card slot . . . but as mentioned previously, NO COMPUTER! So now I can't even blog cutely! thus the delay in the Happy Birthday post to Dave.
It is pathetic when I am crying as I walk out of the library without a card, but I feel like almost every single thing that I looked forward to this summer has been crushed. Even after the trailer was stolen I tried my best to find other fun things to do and one by one they are being crushed. (I even walked 35 minutes to the closest park . . .one way) I know these are very trivial things, but when you are a person who likes to be going and doing and be social . . . it is taking my livelihood away.
At least I still have Dave and Jackson to hang out with. But Dave is gone 8-9 hours a day and Jackson sleeps for 4 and goes to bed at 8 pm.
Any suggestions on what I can do to be fulfilled in an inexpensive way?
As long as I am complaining . . .lets get it all out . . . We are still sleeping on an air mattress and have no couches, so if Iwanna sit it is on the floor. Jackson decided to wake up at 6 am everyday AND be onery about it. He won't eat anything we offer him on a spoon, only adult food from a fork or his own MESSY hands. Ok . . . I think that is about it! I'm done! I'll be happy from now on.

Do you have a regular stroller? You can still go on some pretty walks. Do you have a Target close by? That's always fun to just go see what's new. You're a creative person, maybe you can look on etsy.com to see what kind of projects people do in their own home, research it, and let your skills go wild.
You can also:
Feed the ducks (if you have some close by)
Blow bubbles
Sidewalk chalk
Catch up on your correspondence (write letters old fashion style)
Plant a garden (or use pots like we have on our balcony of our apt.)
Have a picnic
Origami
I'll keep thinking. I might ask you for this list when I'm bored. :)
Triple STINK! That is SO weird that they won't give you a library card. SO weird.
You could make cute cards for birthdays and special occasions for the next year, make Christmas gifts for people, and pray to find a good friend in your ward or apartment.
It's bound to get better right? As Jared often says, "There is only one way to go when you have hit bottom."
I am just relieved to hear that someone else's internship experience isn't all pure fabulousness!! I can definitely relate to what you're going through and am excited to get back to Utah already! Good luck!!
THe library can't do that to you, i know, i have lived places for short amounts of time. How would they ever know you are only going to be there for a short time? Did you tell them that? Shame on you if so. Go back, tell them you just moved there, show your mail or what ever they need to prove you are a resident and get the card!
Jamie,
My husband Eric is going to be starting the MBA program next year, but it happens that I know your husband from my prior BYU days. He was my home teacher in the 181st ward. You will have to ask him if he remembers me.
Plus I am from Boise and can't believe what a horrible experience you are having. My parents live kind of by St. Luke's/BSU area. They have a boat up at Lucky Peak and I am sure would take you and your family boating. They go almost ever Monday night with some other families in our ward for FHE.
I also still have some friends the area who have little kids and I am sure would love to get together. Email me if you are interested in any of these things at ericandgretchen@hotmail.com
Thanks!
Gretchen
Dave and I laughed pretty hard when we read this. I can totally relate. This summer is not turning out to be as great as it was suppose to be. Hopefully when we actually find a job next summer things will go better! :)
Aw man Jamie,
That really does stink about the library card! I can't believe they would take it away!!! You're in an apartment- you'd think that would qualify you as a resident! Shoot.
And I'm sorry your little guy is waking up so early. That's the worst when they decide they want to get up before the sun (and before you're ready to get up). Hang in there!
There's always sunshine after a storm--I keep telling myself this. The weather has been terrible here, but that means I don't feel as bad that I can't get out in it as much as I want.
You might want to look into the books you can read online. I hear there's a lot out there. Thank goodness for internet. And we could mail you the cord to hook up your camera, if you want.
Good luck, sista!
I'm so sorry this internship experience is stinking it up so bad! I don't know what I would do without the library. I vote you try again and talk to someone until they will let you have a card. You are LIVING there for 2 months after all. Your husband is PAYING TAXES in ID. Or, find a friend who will let you check out books on their card:-) So sorry about the stolen trailer too.
