I have been wanted to do elf of the shelf, but felt opposed to the COST of such a simple idea.
We were also opposed to some of the principals elf on the shelf teaches. Anyway, a friend shared this post about kindness elves and I knew this was the solution to the fun of an elf, without the cost or the negative consequences. Our elves (Sophie and Jo-jo) help suggest kind things to do each day. Some are simple and others have been more work. The kids like searching for them each day. Someone mentioned that elves are like action figures for mom . . . this is true :)
"We love our houses you kindly made us!"
Hand out these candy canes to someone who you can cheer up today.
Walk to the neighbors and hand out treats.
Thirsty?
Soaking up the lights?
They made us cinnamon rolls, but I think sophie wants to eat them!

I like your ideas for kind things to do. The kindness elf can be lots of fun and help your little ones to think of others more.
