Failed Parenting

So I have been feeling guilty that our son doesn't have entertaining, stimulating toys to help him develop and learn. So I have been researching, asking friends and neighbors and visiting several stores and online stores to find the perfect gift. Since funds are tight, I wanted to find a toy that could meet several of his needs and provide hours of entertainment and fun. I literally spent 45 mins wandering up and down the toy aisles yesterday and left with nothing because I couldn't decide what he would like most. Then I called some more friends and finally decided on the busy ball popper. I went back last night at 10 pm to buy it- still looking through all the aisles to make SURE it was the perfect toy. I love Jackson and want to provide fun things to do in a small apartment this winter.
I have been hearing about this toy for over a year, many parents swear it is their kids favorite. I was so excited to let Jackson have a new toy, that despite Dave's pleas to keep it until a special occasion, I busted it open today. Here is his reaction.

Within minutes he was back up on the table dancing. I guess I should've saved the $30- thus saving my child some fears and tears.

That is hilarious! It really IS the favorite toy around our house, and I can't tell you how many "wierd" items have been shoved down that toy.

Maybe in time he will love it like everyone else.

Palmer is 4 and still loves this toy. He'll get it soon enough. You could always just invite another kid over, let that kid play with it, and then Jackson is sure to want it. That's what my kids do. They won't touch a toy for months, unless someone else suddenly wants it. :-)

Well i have to write this since i was the one who urged you to buy it but honestly, you can;t be dusyaded about everything your kid doesn't like the first time or they will never like anything! He will love it in a few days! I still think it is a great buy:)

Jamie,

We can do a toy exchange over the winter. I agree with the other comments I bet Jackson will like it in a couple of days. We need to get Savanna and him together so they can really play!

That cracks me up. Isn't it so true though, I am always trying to think of great toys for Blake, but in the end it the funniest things that are their favorite. I think the best idea is just to get the kids together to play sometime! So let's get together soon, k!

That's a favorite toy at our home too. It's also a great hiding place for Maia. I've found my earrings in it, keys, and anything else that I've been missing. Maia likes to use it more as a fan on hot days too. Bummer that Jax didn't find it fun. Give him some time. He'll start to love it right when you start hating to pick up all the balls and having to unclog the other items that have been put down the hole. It's a cute toy. Definitely a fun one.

That is hilarious. Dave's reaction is the best! If it's anything like my house that was the, "I'm not saying anything...but uh, yeah...told you so," reaction!

He'll like it soon enough. Or, you could just wrap it up and save it for that special occasion!

Give it some time. I have noticed that Shad is a little freaked out with every new toy he comes accross but over time he gets used to it and some he even comes to love so just pull it out once or twice a day and show him what it does and soon he will like it. Although he will probably always like dancing on the table you really cant beat that kind of fun

Blast. I'm sorry he didn't love it. Has he started to like it yet?
